We set the knowledge free!
The Society of Practical Knowledge Management was founded by a group of professionals who help each other to solve business issues and promote modern methods of knowledge management among Polish managers. These people were united by a shared interest in the idea of knowledge management and a need to organise their activities in order to achieve common goals more effectively. They met for the first time during the “Roundtable of Knowledge Champions” meetings – series of discussion held since February 2002.
The Society’s mission is to promote modern concepts and methods of managing knowledge and intellectual capital within a wide range of organizations.
The Society is engaged in research, consulting and educational activities in the field of knowledge management, focusing on its use in Polish organizations. The Society actively develops and promotes initiatives, approaches and actions that develop managers’ expertise as well as cooperation skills, at the same time increasing the company’s competitive edge.
The core value of the Society is knowledge sharing and mutual support among its members - the ethics of knowledge transfer are observed and the intellectual property rights are fully respected. Clear added value, mutual trust and openness, exclusiveness, ethics and professionalism, and activity-driven approach corresponding to our motto “Setting knowledge free” provide strong ties within our organization.
The Society implements the following initiatives:
Roundtable of Knowledge Champions. This initiative is aimed at arranging workshops/seminars focusing on different aspects of knowledge management. The meetings were initiated by the members of the Faculty of Management Theory at Warsaw School of Economics as a part of a research program called “Knowledge as a Source of Competitive Advantage”. The Faculty organized first six meetings, during which the idea of establishing the Society of Practical Knowledge Management appeared. The Society continues the tradition of sharing knowledge at a roundtable.
“Knowledge Management Leaders” Contest (leader – Tomasz Rudolf). This initiative aims at arranging the first Polish contest to honour the pioneers of knowledge management in Poland. The awards are planned to be split into three categories: 1) organizations that are most advanced in using the concepts of knowledge management 2) organizations implementing the most interesting knowledge management initiatives 3) most successful knowledge managers.
The Map of Knowledge Management Solutions (leader - Adam Kowalik). This initiative aims at creating a map of knowledge management solutions. The map will be very practical and will allow to present the idea of knowledge management at the level of specific solutions. Creating the map is a great opportunity for the Members to discuss practical aspects of various knowledge management solutions, techniques and tools.
Knowledge Management Convention (leaders – Tomasz Rudolf and Jacek Wróblewski). This is a key part of the Society’s activity. The Convention is an ideal place to learn more about the idea of knowledge management. It offers presentations conducted by the leaders of knowledge management in Poland as well as many different workshops focusing on various matters. Moreover, the Convention provides an opportunity to share valuable experience with other knowledge managers. The Convention will be the largest knowledge management event in Poland, gathering the most notable people working in this field.
Knowledge Cafe (leader – Beata Gajek). The Knowledge Cafe meetings are an excellent opportunity for the Members to discuss opinions about knowledge management. These meetings always focus on a specific theme. They are informal and arranged in carefully selected places to encourage free discussion.
Website (leader - Tomasz Burczyński). This initiative aims at designing and launching a website that would be an attractive presentation of the Society. The website is the basic channel of communication between Society and the world. It contains the latest information about the Society and its activity.
